This year, I told myself, I’m not gonna do it. Hell, I’ve written many times that a man shouldn’t do it, and the only possible exceptions are when ones mother dies, or you watch “Brian’s Song” again. Don’t pull a Beck or Boehner. For chrissake, you’re a man, not a Nancy-boy.

Then, every year, Instapundit, or some other right-thinking individual, posts something like this:

And sure as hell, melancholy sets in. But then the ever-present underlying anger reappears to dry the unwanted moisture issuing from the sometimes useless ducts behind my eyes when I hear some mindless idiot repeat, “Happy Memorial Day”.

Have you seen the Dem’s ad depicting an older lady in a wheelchair being thrown off the cliff because Republicans want Medicare reform, and would kill off the elderly to save a few bucks?

The left has no problem with lies and false scare tactics. This ridiculous ad is no surprise to those of us who expect these things.

At least the guy who tossed her into oblivion had the good sense to hold on to the wheelchair in order to save the cost of another for the next victim in line.

On Monday July 12, 2010 this blog will migrate and hopefully seamlessly redirect to Pundit Boy [http://punditboy.com]. There will be no changes in perspective or content, just the domain name. For now, Blogger will remain my hosting service due to the cost (It’s free).

My knowledgeable and extensive staff and I anticipate a substantial loss of traffic and revenue during this transitory period due to the vagaries of the Intrawebs. This is known in the business as “a real bitch”, but is, unfortunately, unavoidable. Our dedication to serving America knows no bounds.

Sometimes things do not go as planned when dealing with the “cloud”. If you experience any difficulty with our new domain, we will blame the browser that you use, and suggest that you clear your cache and toss your cookies. If , for some reason, you are still not redirected, please click here, which, in the end, is probably the
best thing to do, anyway.

Americans do not celebrate the Fourth of July, you stupid, liberal dork wads. We celebrate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence of the American Colonies from the British Crown on July 4, 1776, with the actual signing by all coming some time after that, catching up with the scattered representatives of our Second Continental Congress, possibly as late as August 2 of that year.

George M. Cohan’s “Yankee Doodle Dandy” was presumably not born on the Fourth of July through the Second of August, so therein might lie the confusion. Artistic license is permissible in all manners genealogical.

Judge Lets Mexico Have Voice in U.S. Court

Here is the Eleventh Amendment to the constitution of the United States in its entirety:

“The Judicial power of the United States shall not be construed to extend to any suit in law or equity, commenced or prosecuted against one of the United States by Citizens of another State, or by Citizens or Subjects of any Foreign State.”

Is that clear, or must one have a Constitutional Law degree to understand it? Oddly, I guess there is some question regarding its interpretation:

Mexico gets its a say in one of the lawsuits challenging Arizona's immigration enforcement law.

A federal judge on Thursday granted Mexico's request to be allowed to file a legal brief supporting the challenge. That means the judge will consider the brief Mexico submitted previously.

Mexico says it wants to defend its citizens' rights and that the law would lead to racial profiling and hinder trade and tourism. It also says the law would hinder work against drug trafficking and related violence.

Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the law on April 23 and changes to it on April 30, has lawyers defending it in court.

In a statement issued last week, Brewer said she was "very disappointed" to learn of Mexico's filing and reiterated that "Arizona's immigration enforcement laws are both reasonable and constitutional." [source]

Assimilation and the Founding Fathers

Emphasizing that America is a “nation of immigrants” is used by liberals to dissuade the public from accepting the exceptionalism of our country, and reducing us to a mixture of foreigners who happen to occupy the United States. Any cohesion that is felt by Americans is discouraged, because a patriotic people would entirely reject the Progressive agenda out of hand.

For them it is better that we remain a hyphenated hodgepodge of separatists of a sort without common heretage. “Independence Day” becomes simply, “the Fourth of July” or the title of a really bad movie.

The Founding Fathers were emphatically insistent on protecting the country against indiscriminate mass immigration. They insisted on assimilation as a pre-condition, not an afterthought. Historian John Fonte assembled their wisdom, and it bears repeating this Independence Day weekend:

George Washington, in a letter to John Adams, stated that immigrants should be absorbed into American life so that "by an intermixture with our people, they, or their descendants, get assimilated to our customs, measures, laws: in a word soon become one people."

In a 1790 speech to Congress on the naturalization of immigrants, James Madison stated that America should welcome the immigrant who could assimilate, but exclude the immigrant who could not readily "incorporate himself into our society."

Alexander Hamilton wrote in 1802: "The safety of a republic depends essentially on the energy of a common national sentiment; on a uniformity of principles and habits; on the exemption of the citizens from foreign bias and prejudice; and on that love of country which will almost invariably be found to be closely connected with birth, education and family."

Hamilton further warned that "The United States have already felt the evils of incorporating a large number of foreigners into their national mass; by promoting in different classes different predilections in favor of particular foreign nations, and antipathies against others, it has served very much to divide the community and to distract our councils. It has been often likely to compromise the interests of our own country in favor of another. The permanent effect of such a policy will be, that in times of great public danger there will be always a numerous body of men, of whom there may be just grounds of distrust; the suspicion alone will weaken the strength of the nation, but their force may be actually employed in assisting an invader."

The survival of the American republic, Hamilton maintained, depends upon "the preservation of a national spirit and a national character." "To admit foreigners indiscriminately to the rights of citizens the moment they put foot in our country would be nothing less than to admit the Grecian horse into the citadel of our liberty and sovereignty." Solving the Illegal Immigration Crisis (Bumped)

Some idiots continue to bitch and moan about the immorality, or some damned thing, of the new Arizona immigration law. If I had the authority, here’s what I would do with the border between the United States and Mexico.

First, I would retain the current authorized border crossings as is, with the exception of training and arming each member of the Border Patrol with semi-automatic handguns to be worn at all times. Also, shotguns and M-16A1s would be made readily available from an armorer who would be responsible for the weaponry and ammunition. The law enforcement types should at least give the impression that they mean business.

Next, I would have built by a regular local fence making company, whose workers were not affiliated with any labor union, to construct a ten-foot tall corrugated steel fence emplaced one inch inside our side of the border, and running the entire length of the border itself. Appropriately spaced steel I-beams would support the fence, and concertina wire would lie atop. Signs would be made visible on the side of the fence in English, Spanish, and perhaps Arabic and Farsi, indicating that it would be in the best interest of anyone contemplating breaching this fence to make the correct decision to about-face, and double-time it back to their country of origin. The signs would also briefly explain the actions that will, will, not might, be taken by the Border Patrol and/or the National Guard or the property owner of any violated land as a consequence of illegal trespass.

Next, on American soil or gravel or whatever is there naturally (I’m all for nature and ‘keeping it real”.), would lie 15 yards (or meters, if you prefer) of level ground, followed by a triple strand of concertina wire. Any man, woman, or child, regardless of possible infirmity, pregnancy, or stupidity, caught in this “No Man’s Land” would be subject to pummeling with rubber bullets or beanbag projectiles that they were warned about. Assuming any of these people regain consciousness in the desert sun, each would be given a 12 oz. bottle of tap water, and dumped back on the Mexican side.

If the illegal alien still managed to breach this and the triple concertina wire, he would have only one hundred yards to go until he entered the U.S. proper. This area would be kept clear of shrubbery, any animal on the endangered species list, and desiccated human corpses (pronounced: ‘corps-ez’, Mr. Obama). Remember, this area would have been previously been identified as the “Kill Zone”, which simply means that any unauthorized personnel found to be in that zone would be subject to deadly force by the Border Patrol or anyone designated as having the authority to protect that area. “Deadly Force” is defined as: the amount of force necessary to cause death or grievous bodily harm. Any illegal who is unfortunate enough to escape that final measure, would be captured, and executed by firing squad as soon as possible.

Now, given these conditions to prevent illegal entry, how many aliens do you think would attempt the crossing annually? I think that the number would probably be approaching zero. Therefore, anyone interested in saving the lives of these poor unfortunates who only want to work, and support their families, should wholeheartedly endorse these measures.

Google™ To Pay Homosexual Employees More Than Straights

Starting Thursday, Google will begin paying its gay and lesbian employees who opt for domestic partner benefits more to cover for a tax those employees have to pay, the New York Times reports.

As it is now, Mountain View-based Google offers benefits to the spouses or partners of both straight and gay employees. However, the married straight employees don't get taxed on those extra benefits -- but the gay employees do as part of the federal laws.
The pay raise will be retroactive to the beginning of 2010. Heterosexual employees with long-term partners won't get the raise, because they could marry and therefore get the tax break if they wished...

Tanning Salons Burned By New Health Law

So, yesterday marked the initial step of stupidity (or is it?) of the new health care program many of us refer to as “ObamaCare”. Naturally, it being a Democrat thing it is, wait for it... a tax! Sur-freakin’-prise! But, it’s not just any run-of-the-mill tax, so beloved by Obama and his ilk, rather it’s a tax on something unhealthy for children, and other living things:

It's the first controversial element of the new health law to take effect: Starting Thursday, people who partake of indoor tanning services will pay a 10 percent tax to help underwrite the costs of the rest of the new law.

Tanning salon owners are outraged. They say the new tax is the last thing they need in a struggling economy. But dermatologists hope the new tax will deter indoor tanning — which they say is every bit as dangerous as baking in the sun — the same way tobacco taxes have helped cut down on smoking.

"The tax could hit an estimated 18,000 small businesses nationwide, jeopardizing thousands of jobs and unfairly hitting working women and college students, who comprise the majority of indoor tanning customers," said a joint statement from the Indoor Tanning Association, the International Franchise Association and the National Federation of Independent Business. Let’s examine that for a moment, shall we? Working women and college students will be hardest hit. Uh-huh. Shouldn’t that actually refer to white working women and Caucasian college students? I’d be willing to wager that the number of people of color who visit tanning salons for a treatment approaches zero. Is it fair for a tax to affect only one race of people? Why the hell doesn’t Obie tax Jeri-Curl™? I’ll bet that one could get a really serious chemical burn from that stuff.

I’m making light of this tax, but it does show a lot about the creeping racism that those of us who are people of pallor accept without making a fuss, as some of us cringe at the thought that we might be seen as biased against those darker hued simply because of skin color.

But, in the words of an armed poll watcher of note, “How’s it feel to be ruled by a black man, cracker?”

Sotomayor Dissent Contradicts Confirmation Testimony

Frankly, I am shocked that any American pushing for a lifetime appointment to a prestigious position in the government might lie in order to get it.

Perhaps the most startling aspect of the Supreme Court opinions in McDonald v. Chicago was the dissenters' assault on District of Columbia v. Heller. Not only did Justice Stephen G. Breyer vote against extending the Second Amendment to state and local governments, he also argued forcefully and at length for overturning Heller and, therefore, for turning the Second Amendment into a practical nullity. Ominously, Justice Sonia Sotomayor joined the Breyer dissent - contradicting what she told the U.S. Senate and the American people last summer.

Regarding the key issue in McDonald - whether the 14th Amendment makes the Second Amendment enforceable against state and local governments - Justice Sotomayor resolutely refused to tell the senators how she might vote. So in voting against incorporating the Second Amendment, Justice Sotomayor was not inconsistent with what she had told the Senate. But regarding Heller, her actions as a justice broke her promises from last summer.

The Breyer-Sotomayor-Ruth Bader Ginsburg dissent urged that Heller be overruled and declared, "In sum, the Framers did not write the Second Amendment in order to protect a private right of armed self defense." [more]

Elena Kagan: Not Simply Adorable, but ‘Nice’

No one in America, be he Republican or Democrat, Whig or Copperhead, can deny that Supreme Court Nominee, Elena Kagan, is likeable and nice. In fact, she fairly oozes nicicity and nicitude. Niceness is apparently highlighted on her calling card on her way to the way to the hallowed halls of the Supreme Court of the United States of America.

She may be the nicest lesbian (allegedly... the “lesbian” part, not the “nicest” part) ever nominated to become a member of the team of “Nine Old Men”. Mom must be extraordinarily proud. When her mother enjoined her young daughter to “Be nice, Elena.”, the girl must have taken it deeply to heart.

I’d be willing to bet my last euro that she’s safely lying through her teeth as she testifies before the Judiciary Committee in the nicest possible way she can muster. Safety and niceness go hand in hand, eh? Women who exude these two things can go far, politically, in a society without actually having to put out to some powerful white guy. This is especially true for a J.A.P., who has far more obstacles to overcome than other womyn. For a feminist to retain the appearance of being nice must be a very difficult challenge, indeed.

The safety thing comes in especially handy when it comes to hatred of the military. It’s a not so well kept secret the soldiers, seamen, marines, and airmen (well, not so much airmen) can suffer injury, or even... gasp... death while performing their duties. War after war has proven the inevitability of this. Progressives realize that this is unacceptable. Since homo sapiens is, by nature, a belligerent creature, a truly nice person would throw every obstacle she/he has in the path of anyone considering adopting such a dark art as a career. And that is precisely what Elena Kagan tried to do as Dean of Harvard Law School. She was eventually convinced, however, that it was much nicer to rake in taxpayer money than to try to prevent Harvard students from training for the highly dangerous positions offered by the Judge Advocate General’s ranks in the armed services.

The pinnacle of nice is displayed when one promotes the bloody bashing of the skull of a nearly born child, possibly before taking in a breath of air on its own. Frankly, it should be mandatory for anyone perfunctorily deemed “nice” to possess the virtue of espousing the savage murder of the most vulnerable among us.
And so, “Good luck, Elena Kagan!”, as Satan is the ‘god of luck’ it seems appropriate.

Confronting The Coming Global Society

By now,it’s becoming Obama’s penchant to talk even more about the “global economy”, in which America plays a role as part of the greater whole. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass in particular about the United States’ economy above any other, except insofar as it affords welfare to his favored countries. He will even use economic legerdemain that costs American taxpayers money which does not even exist to lend aid and comfort to nations about which the average American citizen cares little.

It doesn’t much matter at this point whether Obie was born in Kenya, Hawaii, or Krypton, for that matter. This allegedly intellectually inclined fellow just doesn’t think like an American. Yes, that’s one of those sweeping generalizations that we conservatives love to toss around because we’re too stupid to understand the importance of world citizenship. Hell, he’s not even naturally like the “typical” black (you do remember his comment about his grandmother being a “typical white person”, don’t you?), or more accurately, half-black. He didn’t learn to strut and swagger in Indonesia, after all. Someone had to teach him Negro affectations in the U.S., probably in Chicago. We’re told that he’s good at hoops, though, and that’s a genetic black trait. I seem to recall a well-researched documentary in which a basketball was given to a scantily-clad group of African natives who had never seen one before, but nevertheless within seconds had mastered all the skills of that beloved American institution, the Harlem Globetrotters. Swagger, b-ball skills, and, oh, yeah... dark skin will win you a lot of Negro votes, perhaps as high as 97% of them. But, it doesn’t make you a traditional American.

It is unlikely that Obama even knows how to set fire to a car, or break store windows and loot merchandise on his own, while celebrating a sports victory. He may have cronies of all ethnic persuasions (except oriental, for the most part) to do it for him, however. He is, after all, the quintessential organizer.

Unlike Obama, the true American does not crave power, and we will not tolerate those who do. The American bestows a modicum of authority to those who accept it reluctantly. At its terminus, power lies within the hearts of individuals who band together for common cause and liberty for all. These people cherish freedom without rancor toward others, and take pride in calling themselves “Citizens of the United States of America”.

But, Obama is a post-modern, “enlightened” man who displays none of those American characteristics. It was not the American ethic that elected this man. And therein lies the death of the Republic if we choose to allow citizens of the world to rule, instead of real Americans to lead.

Police Arrest More Than 500 After Vandalism At Toronto Economic Summit

TORONTO (AP) — Police conducted a large raid and rounded up more protesters Sunday in an effort to quell further violence at the global economic summit after black-clad youths rampaged through the city, smashing windows and torching police cruisers.

Police said they have arrested more than 500 demonstrators, many of whom were hauled away in plastic handcuffs and taken to a temporary holding center constructed for the summit.

Thousands of police in riot gear formed cordons to prevent radical anti-globalization demonstrations from breaching the steel and concrete security fence surrounding the Group of 20 summit site.

Toronto Police Sgt. Tim Burrows said police made at least 50 arrests in a Sunday morning raid on a building on the campus of the University of Toronto, where they seized a cache of "street-type weaponry" such as bricks, sticks and rocks.

"We think we put a dent in their numbers with this and with the arrests that happened overnight," Burrows said.

The disorder and vandalism occurred just blocks from where U.S. President Barack Obama and other world leaders were meeting and staying.

"What we saw yesterday is a bunch of thugs that pretend to have a difference of opinion with policies and instead choose violence to express those so-called differences of opinion," Prime Minister Stephen Harper's chief spokesman Dimitri Soudas said Sunday. [more]

Being a sane human accumulation of seemingly unrelated, yet strangely symbiotic cells, I hate to see individuals who temporarily execute minor indiscretions be punished beyond the appropriate scope of their adolescent activities.

For example, every time nations gather to reach accord international on subjects heretofore irresolvable in the history of mankind, a group of “youths” always appears, from seemingly nowhere, to disrupt the festivities in a violent manner. They have a penchant for destroying structures and wealth created by others, reveling in their own free-spirited method of protest against the evils of capitalism and the greed of free enterprise.

Now, obviously, one cannot kill these rascals for their escapades for that would be too harsh. But a mere rap on the knuckles would not deliver the message to them that further continuances of wanton exhibitions of this sort is not acceptable. So perhaps we should use measured responses gleaned from varied sources such as the Torah of Judaism, the insights of the Brothers Grimm, and “The Art of War by Sun Tzu”. And had the Zulu of South Africa developed writing, we could use their wisdom as well, in order to achieve ethnic diversity in our course of action.

The plan is simple. Most cultures argue that the punishment should be commensurate with the crime; so be it here. For example, should an offender render a glass panel of any sort be rendered unusable by the use of a heavy object, such as a wooden baseball bat, by applying such force by the perpetrator to cause the door or window to shatter, so, too, shall an authorized law enforcement officer do the same to the arms and/or legs of the offender. He would then be treated for any injuries sustained as soon as repairs for the building involved are completed to the satisfaction of the owner. Payment and method of repair to the building and the injured person would be the responsibility of the individual writhing on the ground. Any use of fire, as is so commonly observed being employed by some of the unruly, would result in the torching of the person or persons seen committing the crime, so that the lives of others would might be spared by any resultant collateral damage. As always, the safety of the innocent is paramount.

This simple plan is, of course, for the greater good of society. Often the freedom of a man to destroy structures, propagate infernos, and endanger the lives of others must be held in check. Sometimes a verbal rebuke does not send strong enough a message.

Just what is it that gays are so “proud” about?

When the Fayetteville, Ark., Gay Pride Parade steps off on East Street Saturday on its way to the Wal-Mart parking lot, it will be led by a young man who has made a career out of fighting for gay rights.

Make that a young boy. Will Phillips, the grand marshal, is 10 years old, and his presence has thrust Fayetteville's Gay Pride Parade into the national spotlight.

Ordinarily, the annual parade is pretty low-key, residents say. The mayor issues a proclamation, the police close a few streets and a few hundred people show up, something that Skip Descant, who covers the city for the Northwest Arkansas Times, says is a lot for a Saturday morning in the summer.

Booths are set up in the Wal-Mart parking lot; people linger to hear a few speeches in the hot sun; sometimes there are a few jeers; and then everyone goes home early. It is a pretty low-key affair.

But the selection of young Will, who last November refused to stand and recite the Pledge of Allegiance in school to show his support for gay rights, has changed all that. This, of course, is the Obama enigma: Who is this guy? What are his core beliefs? The president himself is no help on this score. When it comes to his own image, he has a tin ear. Using legerdemain like this will not help the economy, but politicians care more about maintaining and increasing government power than the well-being of the country.

House Democrats are readying an alternative budget measure that would set next year’s spending levels without requiring a vote on deficits.

House Budget Committee Chairman John Spratt (D-S.C.) said the alternative would be the “functional equivalent” of a full-fledged budget. But because it won't be a traditional budget resolution, it will be silent on future deficits, which are expected to average nearly $1 trillion for the next decade.

The president has no authority to do such a thing -- but neither did he have authority to cram down Chrysler and GM bond holders for the benefit of the UAW. Law is irrelevant, probably not even considered as an afterthought, by this president.

BP is not a victim here. They're not in the least bit sympathetic. But this is the nation that presumes innocence before guilt, that is founded on the rule of law rather than of men. How strange it is that we elected a president who wants to give terrorist murderers the benefit of the doubt, give them access to legal protections they're not even entitled to, but treats a major international corporation -- which had already said it would pay all legitimate claims -- the way Al Capone treated a rival moonshine distributor. Tuesday night's speech from the Oval Office of the White House was written to a 9.8 grade level, said Paul J.J. Payack, president of Global Language Monitor. The Austin, Texas-based company analyzes and catalogues trends in word usage and word choice and their impact on culture.

Though the president used slightly less than four sentences per paragraph, his 19.8 words per sentence "added some difficulty for his target audience," Payack said.

He singled out this sentence from Obama as unfortunate: "That is why just after the rig sank, I assembled a team of our nation's best scientists and engineers to tackle this challenge -- a team led by Dr. Steven Chu, a Nobel Prize-winning physicist and our nation's secretary of energy." [more]

It took Barack Obama less time to become Jimmy Carter than it took Carter. Sure, their presidencies have taken similar tracks – relative Washington newcomers amidst bad economies and talk of cities defaulting on debt. Even the election of Sen. Scott Brown to take over for the late Sen. Ted Kennedy was similar to the GOP taking the seat held by the late Sen. Hubert Humphrey in 1978.

That was just the opening act. Carter went down in history as man overwhelmed by the office he held. And Tuesday night, in front of the entire nation, Barack Obama sounded just like him.

Not just like Carter on any day. Obama’s first speech to the nation from the Oval Office sounded a lot like Carter’s famous “malaise” speech July 15, 1979, that all but defined the end of his presidency.

Only, Obama sounded out to lunch more than a year earlier than Carter. Both wanted to intervene in the energy crisis. Both wanted to rally a divided America. Neither was up to the task.

Yesterday, I constructed one of the most difficult builds in the long history of carpentry. Please hold your applause until the end of the post. Thank you.

Many “regular” people don’t understand the complexity involved with working with wood, and I mean that alliteratively. First you have to buy the pre-cut wood (or lumber, as we workers in wood describe it). Then you have to find your carpenter’s glue, which actually requires a certified license to purchase. Finally one needs to locate a hammering device, which normally would be a hammer, but anything like a wrench or a rock will do in a pinch. I would say that there’s no need to mention acquiring assorted nails and/or screws, but that would be after mentioning it, so I won’t.

No, my box isn’t as intricate as the one pictured, and maybe not as pleasing to the eye, but, dammit, I built it with these two hands! You can’t actually “see” my hands, but I’m sure you’re familiar with the general anatomy of hands.

Real men build stuff. In fact, I’ll go as far to say that only real men build stuff. I’ve got lots of stuff I built, and, believe me, the ladies love it. I’m not sayin’ I’m proud of breaking up relationships, but you guys know what I’m sayin’. It’s amazing what a couple of screwdrivers and several rum and Cokes will do.

But, that’s not the point. I’m not certain that there is a point, except to demonstrate that men like to produce; it doesn’t really matter what they produce, as long as it is something that they are proud of. Relegating a man to sitting on a Lazy Boy™ recliner, while collecting a government check appropriated from others for compensation for loss of his means of production is antithetical to his instinctual drive to make stuff that provides for his family, and helps to make his mate (in the American sense, not the British) endure his god awful propensity to leave the toilet seat up in the locked and upright position, and other illogically perceived feminine annoyances that are unfathomable to the male of the species.

I built a box, a crappy box, but it lends credence and affirmation that I am a man. By extending reliance on a government handout to what is beginning to become forever, you are destroying my masculinity, my reason for existing as an independent, self-reliant individual. You even place obstacles in my way trying to ensure that I can’t even start from jump, and build a business to support those I love, and who once loved me.

Somewhere there is another who needs a box, and will pay cash money for my box. But, the laws prevent me from selling it because it came from a precious tree, might hurt a child if forcefully hurled upon his head, or is not built by labor union political party donors. And you falsely claim that you do it in the name of compassion. You do it because you insatiably desire power over everyone.

If I somehow overcome all the regulation and outright stupidity that you impose, and sell my box, you want some of the proceeds for my success. If I refuse to knuckle under to you, you’ll simply take my box, my time, and anything else you can steal away from me. You explain that that is for the collective good.

You make me feel like I should build another box... to hold my weapons and ammunition.

On Election Day 2008, two members of the New Black Panther party (NBPP) dressed in military garb were captured on videotape at a Philadelphia polling place spouting racial epithets and menacing voters. One, Minister King Samir Shabazz, wielded a nightstick. It was a textbook case of voter intimidation and clearly covered under the 1965 Voting Rights Act.

A Department of Justice trial team was assigned to investigate. They gathered affidavits from witnesses—one of the poll watchers was called a “white devil” and a “cracker.” A Panther told him he would be “ruled by the black man.” The trial team, all career Justice attorneys and headed by voting section chief Chris Coates, filed a case against the two Panthers caught on tape. Malik Zulu Shabazz, head of the national NBPP, and the party itself were also named based on evidence the party had planned the deployment of 300 members on Election Day and on statements after the incident in which the NBPP endorsed the intimidation at the Philadelphia polling station.

The trial team quickly obtained a default judgment—meaning it had won the case because the New Black Panther party failed to defend itself. Yet in May 2009, Obama Justice Department lawyers, appointed temporarily to fill top positions in the civil rights division, ordered the case against the NBPP dismissed. An administration that has pledged itself to stepping-up civil rights enforcement dropped the case and, for over a year, has prevented the trial team lawyers from telling their story.

I have a really excellent Dolby 7.1 sound system hooked up to my TV and DVD player. Thanks to the gods of trial and error, it works as advertised. And no, this post will not morph into the old “What kind is it?”* joke.

The problem is that every time somebody on a show knocks on a door it’s so realistic that I invariably get off the Lazy Boy® to answer my own freaking door! Now, where is the government when problems like this arise? They spend all that money on unions and “Palestinians”, yet leave the common man swinging in the breeze. I’m sick of it!

Fortunately, I opted out of land line telephone service years ago, so a phone ringing on CSI-SVU, or whatever the hell program it is, doesn’t send me off to answer my nonexistent phone very often.

Technology is a wonderful thing, but sometimes we must be careful not to rely on it under all conditions. Excuse me, someone’s at the door.

*For those of you who don’t know the joke, it goes precisely like this:

Anyone who compares this child’s ‘round the world solo trip in a freaking boat with the dangers our ancestors faced when settling the West, or escaping the Potato Famine, or enlisting in the Army of the Potomac is an idiot. As much as I approve of children being permitted to take certain risks, this was madness on the part of her parents, as well as the young girl.

The parents of a 16-year-old Southern California girl feared missing while attempting a solo sail around the world are working closely with international rescue agencies to locate their daughter.

The search began for Abby Sunderland somewhere between Africa and Australia after emergency beacons were manually activated by the teen and there was a loss of communication.

Another beacon designed to go off automatically when the boat is submerged in water had not been activated, her parents said on the teen's blog. [more]

If she were to have consensual sex with her 18 year-old boyfriend, he would be eligible to spend a great deal of time in prison. Yet in this foolish trip she is supposed to be allowed the actions of an adult?

There are certain things in an orderly society that are not condoned, and rightly so. Yes, governmental authority should be limited to the barest of bones, but common sense should not. Her “impossible dream” was originally to become the youngest female human to sail around the world alone, non-stop. There is no practicality in that endeavor, only selfishness and the wealthy and, I suspect, insecure parents who wanted to live vicariously through their daughter, themselves disregarding the fact that a precious life would be at stake. Saying that she and they knew the risks is disingenuous at best.

May Abby be safe, if it is God’s will.

The president seemed to go out of his way this week to please his latest guest, President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority, in a way he didn't when Israel's prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, came calling last month.

Declaring "the situation in Gaza (as) unsustainable," he called on Israel to lighten its blockade on the terrorist-led regime in Gaza. And as a sweetener for the Palestinians, he appeared for an Oval Office photo with Abbas. Such a photo op was denied to Netanyahu.

Then the president whipped out the government checkbook to present a $400 million gift to Abbas' government, $70 million more than the original commitment, supposedly for public works projects in the West Bank and Hamas-ruled Gaza. [More]

What do ‘they’ mean by “shake well” when using canned or jarred products? The instructions seem too imprecise. Who determines what “well” is, an what makes him, her, or them experts?

Suppose one does not have the ability to shake well. If Roy Hallady came up to me and said, “Here, hit this 87mph slider, and hit it well.” There is no way in hell that any baseball bat that I am swinging is going to come anywhere close to am 87mph slider, let alone actually hit the ball, and hit it “well”. This is what kept me out of the Rookie League. The term “shake well” is therefore subjective, isn’t it?

My idea of shaking expertise may be quite different from yours. For example, I might think that the duration of actual shaking is paramount, while you believe that the vigor applied to the shake is most important. An innocent bystander may prefer a combination of the two, and her sister agrees, although placing more emphasis on one or the other. The variables are endless, like the most achievable decimal places of pi, while still being completely accurate. 3.1416 don’t cut it; we can agree, even if we don’t see eye to eye on sentence structure and syntax. As Shakespeare once said through the character King Lear, “Alas. The mind doth boggle, poor Yorick.”

Frighteningly, this was written without the aid of performance-enhancing pharmaceuticals, and still the definition of “shake well” will haunt me, even to the grave. But, at least for now, I feel a little better. After all is said, the most important thing is how we feel. Completing the mission satisfactorily is an ancillary consideration.

Perhaps we should just further discuss the ramifications of the popular, yet continually changing and living, meaning of “shake well” until after the next election cycle, or the interest shown by the public has waned.

It could be that we should assemble a team of consultants to determine if a blue ribbon panel of experts should be appointed to study the problem, so that a determination can be made regarding proactive management and any causative litigation to be instituted. We can all agree that it is important to move forward on this issue, mainly because we love to say, and you love to hear the phrase: “move forward”.

This is exhausting. Maybe I’ll start thinking about it tomorrow.

Democrats Seek to Lift Ban on Abortions at U.S. Military Hospitals

Democrats are looking to repeal a longtime ban of abortions performed at U.S. military hospitals overseas.

Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill., introduced the repeal as an amendment to the defense authorization bill, which passed the Senate Armed Services Committee on a 15-12 vote.

The amendment still has a long way to go. It threatens policy put in place by congressional Republicans during the Clinton administration that restricted abortions at military hospitals to only cases of rape, incest or if the woman's life is threatened.

Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., says military facilities, including all hospitals, should be places of healing and should protect life.

"We will stand firm and I welcome the fight…if they want to bring it. I do believe that there will be an overwhelming vote to keep our military hospitals as nurturing centers not abortion mills," Smith said. [more]

Well, I just got back from voting in the Republican primary in the First Congressional District of Nevada. I’m hearing excuses on FNC like, “It’s too hot to go out and vote.” Yes, this is Las Vegas, and it is seasonably warm... so what? You want cold, go move up to Wasilla, Alaska next to Joe McGinnis.

I don’t want to sound overly dramatic, but do non-voters know that men and women gave their lives so that we might choose those who govern? These people are nothing more than tar balls on the beaches of history, harbingering the sticky slime that awaits. Yeah, that’s sucky writing, but you get the point.

Aside from poll workers, I was the only human present at the school where ballots awaited to be cast. I enjoyed the good-natured banter that usually ensues when I pull up in my main source of transportation, a proud red three-wheeled scooter everyone wanted to test drive. I’m appreciative that no one, Dem or Pub, asks about the reason I’m relying on the machine. I think that if folks see someone who is not morbidly obese in one of these contraptions, they might wonder about a possible interesting tale behind it, but courtesy prevails.

My point is not to pat myself on the back for making it to the polls. Rather it is to ask most of the lazy able-bodied, “What the hell is wrong with you?” I swear, I’ll get President Obama to kick your ass with his purse (or might that be our purse, via excessive and crippling taxation?).

On the other hand, if one chooses not to vote, shut up about your damned victimhood, and complaining about “fair share” and other leftist nonsense. You are not as worthy of being an American as is a bucket of warm piss.

At the age of 37, I thought I was in great health. I had run regularly from the age of 12, worked as a weight trainer at the New York University gym and practiced karate. Although I never thought I was invincible, I had no idea that I would have a heart attack. My family had always had a history of cancer so I figured that if I got sick, this would be my fate (hopefully later on down the line). However, one day I finished working out in the gym and was driving home with my husband when I became short of breath. Last night on Hannity’s program, Sean had several ordinary (if by “ordinary” one means “absolutely brilliant”) citizens with ideas about cleaning up the Gulf oil spill and “plugging the damned hole!”.

Did you know that freaking hay can absorb 80% of the oil? The same gentlemen who offered that idea to British Petroleum (or BP, or Beyond Petroleum) had some kind of fabric that absorbs even more. They were ignored by the powers that be.

A gal who started college when she was 10, and became a university professor at 18, suggested an apparatus that she invented, made with used tires and simple everyday materials, be used to stuff in the offending pipe, and stop the relentless flow of crude, at its source. Again, BP wasn’t interested.

What the hell is going on here? Obama chooses to employ his own “experts” to deal with this mess, instead of listening to people who actually know what they’re doing. Bob Beckel had the answer... it’s Bush’s fault.

Oil Spill Containment Closely Watched

Maybe there’s some optimism to be had regarding the Gulf spill. But, since Admiral Allen is Obama’s point man on the disaster, I have doubts.

NEW ORLEANS -- A device that's now sucking up significant amounts of the oil spewing from the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico offered a measure of optimism Sunday even as the government's point man on the spill warned problems would persist for months.

Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen said on CBS' "Face the Nation" that the spill, which is ravaging beaches and wildlife, will not be contained until the leak is fully plugged and that even afterward "there will be oil out there for months to come." [more]

Last night on FNC I saw a spokesperson for “comprehensive immigration” reform tout the virtues of amnesty for illegal aliens for about the umpteenth time. She espoused every single one of the talking points described here:

In the wake of Arizona’s new laws, the illegal alien special interests are working overtime making their last ditch pitch for amnesty before mid-terms elections, robotically reciting how they want to “fix” our immigration problems:

“We need to fix our broken immigration system. We need a path to citizenship for undocumented workers so they can go to the back of the line, get right with the law, and implement an orderly flow of needed workers, and a policy which secures the borders.”

For those in the know, of course, it’s all nonsense - word play and empty promises…

It’s all so simple, even a liberal should be able to get it. Or, perhaps not.
